Children have to be educated, but they have also to be left to educate themselves. ~Abbé Dimnet, Art of Thinking

Isaiah's true dream is to guide his own education and be given help when he calls for it. He really is an unschoolers dream! Skiing was no different. We put him in a $72 lesson. They kept him nice and safe and let him glide down a nice little hill. He let me know afterward that it was a complete waste of time and that he learned nothing from them. He learned everything on the big mountain! (This is with no input from anyone, by the way.) Dad, drawing stares from onlookers, dragged Isaiah up the smallest hill at Liberty Ski Resort since he didn't himself have a lift ticked. He then jogged after Isaiah as he went down. After repeating this a few times, Dad was exhausted and Isaiah started taking the conveyor belt lift up by himself. Following his solo ascent, he would head down the mountain. He avoided people to the best of his ability and knew instinctively to turn to stop and fall when out of control. He could also get up after he fell!

He started to become impatient with the other novice skiers though. He preferred to walk as well as be pulled up by the conveyor belt. He encouraged other riders to do the same.

The rest of us had a relaxing time sitting in the lodge. Shawn and his friend were off snowboarding... too far from sight for pictures. Kerry and her friend socialized in the lounge a then headed out for some tubing!
