Children have to be educated, but they have also to be left to educate themselves. ~Abbé Dimnet, Art of Thinking

Isaiah's true dream is to guide his own education and be given help when he calls for it. He really is an unschoolers dream! Skiing was no different. We put him in a $72 lesson. They kept him nice and safe and let him glide down a nice little hill. He let me know afterward that it was a complete waste of time and that he learned nothing from them. He learned everything on the big mountain! (This is with no input from anyone, by the way.) Dad, drawing stares from onlookers, dragged Isaiah up the smallest hill at Liberty Ski Resort since he didn't himself have a lift ticked. He then jogged after Isaiah as he went down. After repeating this a few times, Dad was exhausted and Isaiah started taking the conveyor belt lift up by himself. Following his solo ascent, he would head down the mountain. He avoided people to the best of his ability and knew instinctively to turn to stop and fall when out of control. He could also get up after he fell!

He started to become impatient with the other novice skiers though. He preferred to walk as well as be pulled up by the conveyor belt. He encouraged other riders to do the same.

The rest of us had a relaxing time sitting in the lodge. Shawn and his friend were off snowboarding... too far from sight for pictures. Kerry and her friend socialized in the lounge a then headed out for some tubing!

...and I have no opinion about who is sweet and who is nuts!

We all shared a great holiday with family. Isaiah and Owen had an awesome time with their cousins. It was great to catch up with everyone!

Yeah! It's Christmas morning... well the morning of the 24th anyway. We celebrated "Christmas morning" on the 24th. Isaiah and Owen woke up to stockings full of books and tape and chalk and bunches of other fun stuff. Santa ate all his cookies and water (Isaiah refused to leave him cow's milk standing stood firm in his belief that Santa would definitely prefer water) and left presents strewn across the house. He even left a few for mom and dad.

Isaiah and Owen LOVED the pulley system mom and dad gave them. It allows them to finally put that bunk bed to use! They can load things on the floor and raise them up to the top bunk. They also loved their toy tree house! It has two pulley systems too.

Our awesome new Vita-Mix was the key to Isaiah and Owen getting today's greens. They love it!!!

Joel Fuhrman's' famous soup promises to cure everything from cancer to a sinus infection. It's super yummy too. It's too hard to make without a high power blender though so I never had the chance to make it before. Today we made it minus the leeks since the car battery was dead and I couldn't find them yesterday.

We started with a pot full of lentils, water, and whole veggies. I love the way starting with the emphasis on whole veggies reinforces the goal of eating "whole foods". The recipe calls for the juice of two heads of celery and five pounds of carrots. Isaiah took over the juicing with Owen as his left hand man! Isaiah's fresh juice then functions as stock. Steamed whole veggies are soon Vita-Mixed and then rejoin the original lentils and fresh juice. Chopped mushrooms top off the soup!

...and now we needed to decorate the tree! A ladder and lots of lights. Too bad we gifted most of the ornaments when we were planning our escape. "Two grandmas and a grandpa" came over to help! Isaiah and Owen got some practice on the ladder too!

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more. ~Dr. Seuss
